COLT STARTING - Colts are started at their own pace as each youngster is different.  They are taught good ground manners, patience as well as all of the basics of being ridden.  Once colts are going well they are ridden outside to get experience handling different terrains, circumstances and to develop confidence in themselves.  Then they go to work on cattle.  Gathering, sorting, holding cattle together, cutting out sick calves or cattle that are needed  and light roping  Colts are also taught to yield to leg pressure, correct stops and turns as well as working gates and whatever else comes up on the job.  No two days are exactly alike when on a working ranch!  It is amazing what a difference working miles can make!
TRAINING- Horses are evaluated when they come in to see where they are at and if they have any areas that they need some improvement.  After the initial evaluation I work on the problem areas if any and then away we go.  Much the same as the colts the horses are used in daily ranch work so a variety of situations arise that are handled and taken care of.  It gives the horse a chance to work and see a purpose for doing what it does.  Spins, working on the hocks, good stops so that they can roll back and get to the cattle quicker, the list just goes on and on.  Working miles help to give you a good solid horse that has the abilities and the confidence to handle whatever you may ask of it.  The end result is a horse that is a pleasure to be around, is soft and supple and willing to please.
